1 min read

RAD+ar’s Bioclimatic Community Mosque in Pamulang, Tangerang, was shortlisted as a finalist in the Religion – Completed Buildings category at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2021. The WAF, recognized as one of the most significant global platforms for architecture, celebrates projects that push boundaries in design, sustainability, and cultural relevance.

The Bioclimatic Community Mosque redefines the role of a religious building by positioning it as both a place of worship and a shared community space. The design integrates passive cooling strategies such as natural ventilation through roster block partitions, ensuring airflow without relying heavily on mechanical systems. Indirect daylighting allows the space to be illuminated for up to 12 hours a day, reducing energy use while maintaining comfort. In place of a traditional dome, the mosque incorporates a green roof that supports insulation and lowers the ambient temperature, reinforcing the ecological responsibility at the heart of the project.

By combining spirituality, sustainability, and community, the project demonstrates how architecture can remain deeply contextual and human while addressing contemporary environmental challenges. Its recognition at WAF 2021 highlights the potential of adaptive design in shaping inclusive and resilient public spaces.
